August Cooke released his debut ep Like Rivers in 2023, receiving attention from Gilles Peterson who described him as a ‘great new talent’. He makes cello-based songs that serve as a base for musical and spiritual expansion. Like Arthur Russell, studies of Hindustani music have breathed spaciousness into the music. The influence of artists like Milton Nascimento, Andy Palacio, Kenny Wheeler, Jacqueline Du Pre might be heard, alongside many others.
