On Thursday, August 15th in the beautiful setting of the Crazy Coqs venue situated within the stunning Brasserie Zédel restaurant in Soho, London, international, London-based country music-influenced duo Campbell Jensen (Thor Jensen and Ashley Campbell) brought their old-school style, and stylish sound to the gorgeous stage and seamlessly wowed the packed audience with their unique vocal harmonies, and intricate lyrical style, not to mention their outstanding artistry and musicianship that sets them apart from the current crop of country acts.
There was something truly mesmerising about the way they performed, slick instrumentals combined with their luscious and full-bodied vocals and stellar storytelling truly allowed them to create an immersive atmosphere that had the crowd rapt with attention. Some people are just born for the stage, and (Ashley) Cambell (Thor) Jensen definitely fall into the camp. They are polished and effortless in the spotlight and have an easy charm and on-stage banter that puts the audience at ease.
During the 90-minute set, they performed tracks off their beautiful ‘Turtle Cottage’ album, bringing the picturesque lyrics to life in a way that allowed the London crowd to place themselves within the stories and be swept away through the immersive words. Campbell Jensen have an easy on-stage charm and a cool banter between their songs, giving them the chance to truly connect in a way few artists manage so effortlessly. They are truly a wonderful live act and on August 15th they delivered a fantastic, electric set.
Country music is synonymous with storytelling and Campbell Jensen certainly deliver on that front, although there were also two instrumentals within their sparkling set allowing them the opportunity to truly put the spotlight on their artistic prowess. True musicians to the core, they become one with their instruments in these moments. This was a moment of pure magic and as the night drew to a close they were met with a rousing round of applause leading to an encore much to the crowd’s delight.
Campbell Jensen are one of America’s most impressive exports and the UK audience have completely fallen in love with their sound, and their London set at Crazy Coqs further grew their reputation. They are able to beautifully connect with intimate and large crowds alike and truly shine as musicians on stage. Their Crazy Coqs showcase was sublime in every way.
