Writers’ rounds are synonymous with the country music scene in Nashville, Tennessee in the US and are thankfully becoming more normal in the UK, and with country becoming more, and more popular on British shores we can expect to see more of these kinds of shows which is a huge win for fans of the genre and intimate concerts.
One of those concert promoters further pushing the writers round format in the UK are Nashville Meets London who delivered a spectacular line-up on Tuesday, August 27th at the Pizza Express Live venue in Holborn, London.
Taking to the stage for an absolutely incredible night of live music were Nashville-based Grammy-nominated songwriter Jeff Cohen, Ben Earle of The Shires fame, Britain’s leading female country act Kezia Gill, and Sugarland’s Kristian Bush.
The night was phenomenal from start to finish with each artist performing four songs each on a rotating basis. There’s something truly special about hearing how these tracks came to life directly from the writer and performer and there’s a magic in hearing them exactly how they were written in the room. The packed crowd loved every minute and it felt like we were somewhere like the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
A real standout moment was when Alyssa Bonagura jumped up on stage to perform some background vocals for Jeff Cohen, offering a real Nashville moment in London, and of course, hearing the stories of how these songs came to be is always a huge plus.
There aren’t many genres that have these kinds of backstories and the country music scene is dominated by storytelling, and this Pizza Express show was a chance for Londoners to immerse themselves in that side of the genre and really place themselves in the industry and the backstories.
Ben Earle, Kezia Gill, Kristian Bush, and Jeff Cohen are insanely talented writers and craft some of the most impressive songs we will ever hear and during this showcase, they delivered a sparkling performance that represented their remarkable talents as individuals are creative minds.
This is such an exciting moment for the UK’s country music scene and this line-up was magical and something that will live long in the memory of those lucky enough to be in attendance on August 27th.
Nashville Meets London are doing a truly fantastic job of bringing UK and US acts together on one stage and we can’t wait to see what’s next from the brand who will announce their 2025 shows very shortly.
